New Russian Borders and Modern Cossacks Renaissance

This project focused on the role of new Russian borders in the Cossacks’ identity construction. Special attention was paid to the Cossacks in “non-Cossacks'” regions. The Cossacks’ revival was explored in the context of the modern contemporary border discourse. The state position towards borders, the Cossacks’ vision on borders and border protection, and the presentation of Cossacks in the mass-media were analyzed.
