The history of technical breakthroughs in the Russian empire from the 18th to the beginning of the 20th centuries: lessons for the 21st century?

A collaborative project with the European University in Saint Petersburg.

This interdisciplinary research project unites historical and sociological methodology in order to expose and compare analytically the premises of technical breakthroughs in Russia. The project’s framework encompasses the study of the current innovative climate and the relation of key institutional agents toward innovator-entrepreneurs in comparison with the late-Soviet period (1970-1980). The main empirical body of this part of the project is a compilation of expert interviews with people directly involved in innovative economics.
