Companies Coping with Multiple Regulatory Systems in Russian Resource Extracting Business

CISR and University of Eastern Finland

This is a research and cooperation project.  Research focuses on resource extracting transnational corporations of Finnish and Russian origin operating in the multiplicity of regulatory systems. The situation of mixed legal space combining a variety of legal and quasi-legal intersecting regulatory regimes requires companies to take a strategic approach in choosing rules to comply, rules to change and rules to violate.  Findings on the effects at the local level and costs for the enterprises for using non-state regulation contribute to the ongoing discussion on state vs. non-state regulation. Research results will also reveal the real possibilities of Finnish enterprises to pursue sustainable development in a foreign environment. Two doctoral dissertations will be prepared
