“THIS MATERIAL IS DISTRIBUTED BY THE RUSSIAN LEGAL ENTITY PERFORMING THE FUNCTIONS OF A FOREIGN AGENT”

The title is not the information about some CISR’s news or upcoming event.

In 2015, Centre for Independent Social Research was listed by Russian authorities as “an organisation performing the functions of an foreign angent”. We consider discriminatory both the law introducing the concept of “foreign agent” into Russian legislation and the practice of implementing this Act to oppress Russian independent Non-Governmental Organizations. We follow the directives which don’t fit our work stylistically and which are detrimental for the civil society, because we are willing to keep Centre working and we are not going to violate our professional integrity.

Giving the phrase a visible place at CISR’s website it’s an effort to cope with new directives of Roskomnazor. In accordance with the Act #124 of November 23, 2020, signed by the head of the agency Mr. Lipov, we are obligated to stamp with a bold mark “Foreign Agent” everything we could touch – our words, every public expression and so on. It looks like our life are being forced to become a sort of ill phantasy of the servants of the state. What else will they ask us to do?
